URGENT PRAYER REQUEST!!!!

Five years ago this week, Donna's son (Douglas) was diagnosed at age 9 with epilepsy.  Since that time, the medications have not truly controlled the seizures, although there were points where he would be seizure free for several weeks.

Last summer, his neurologist stated she felt the only option was surgery.  Multiple tests have taken place since then and the results of the tests show he is a candidate for the surgery.  This would involve removal of all or part of his left temporal lobe.  Tentative surgery date would be mid-May.

Right now, we ask for your prayers in the decision of whether to proceed with the surgery.  Indications are that this type of surgery is the most common epilepsy surgery AND the most successful (which is wonderful to hear).  Approximately 60 to 70% of the patients who have this surgery become seizure free!!!  Of course, this is exactly what we want.  But this is an incredible decision to face.

Through this ordeal, we've learned that no matter what life throws our way, God is ultimately in control.  But, as parents with a human nature, it's still heart wrenching to hand over your child in a situation where you have no control in the results.  We ask for God's peace in our hearts and for a successful outcome.

Thank you doesn't begin to express from us how much we have appreciated all the words of encouragment and the prayers that have gone up for our family during these years.  We couldn't make it without you!!!

UPDATE:  (October 2009)

Douglas is doing so well.  Although the May 15 surgery didn't go as the doctors planned, Dr. Jesus had other plans!  Since his hospital stay, he has had only one seizure:  a small, 30-second seizure on August 20.  We believe this was due to his returning to school the day prior and us not thinking about changing his time for his night-time dosage to be 12 hours after his morning dosage before leaving for school.  We believe God himself did what needed to be done and that Douglas IS seizure-free!!!  We praise God for Douglas' healing!!!

Grades are awesome; his demeanor is like before the diagnosis; he's simply a happier young man.
